‘Sharing Peter’s Sinking Feeling’

New1123"My coming to DMWSC reminds me of Peter's water walking experience...when faced with the opportunity of a lifetime, I too, like Peter, said "yes" and stepped out of the boat in faith.

I came knowing nothing but my destination – New Jalpaiguri station, nearest station t o Darjeeling, I always had a desire to serve, but the decision to take an almost 360 degree turn from the corporate sector to the service sector was prompted by the question pricking my conscience...When faced with my maker I would be asked – What did you do with what I gave you?

"...unrealised potential is a sin – a very serious sin..." – John Ortberg. So here I was in DMWSC, making a fresh start which I had never planned, with nothing to give, but myself and a fraction of my time here on earth.

I had travelled only from one part of Bengal to another but the socio-political and demographic conditions were like that of another country; add to that a deplorable economic condition – I was overwhelmed and found myself sharing Peter's sinking feeling.

John Ortberg writes – "Hope got Peter out of the boat; Trust held him up; Fear sank him; everything hinged on whether he was focused on the savior of the storm."

“My coming to DMWSC reminds me of Peter’s water walking experience...when faced with the opportunity of a lifetime, I too, like Peter, said “yes” and stepped out of the boat in faith.”

The very night I arrived Sr. Sabrina asked me to use the one thing I had left behind in my boat – my corporate knowledge. Naturally, I was apprehensive but I soon learned that an Income Generation Workshop had been budgeted in the month of July, 2010 and was kept on hold because the right resource person could not be found – focus was restored.Jesus calms storm...my fear was quelled with one simple sentence – Do what you can, where you can, with what you have.

Armed with a mission and a vision, God enabled me to take a concept and give it shape...to outline an interactive Income Generation Workshop, formulate a simplified business module, teach the youth of Panighatta and prepare a product line worthy of a Lifestyle store – in two weeks. This experience has reaffirmed my belief that I am nothing but an instrument in His hands.

My time at DMWSC was meant to be a time of discernment. For me DMWSC has been the vehicle of a Spiritual journey. Working with the team at DMWSC has felt more like fellowship than work. What does is it mean to work for God?

"It is using one's endowed giftedness to serve the world with excellence and through that service to love and honour god." – John Ortberg."
